Our History

We were founded in 2005 as
"Travelers Rest Arts Mission"
by Nichole Livengood
with a mission to bring the arts to the community
and artists of northern Greenville county.
Projects in the early years included
a poetry reading series entitled
"Poets in the Forest",
an outsider arts/folk arts fair "Tram Fair",
a children's art camp, an art day for children,
and development of services for artists.
Under Nichole's dynamic leadership,
and with the help of the board,
this one-person effort grew into a successful
community arts organization that offered a wide
variety of programs and services to Travelers Rest
and surrounding areas.

In November 2007, Nichole decided to step down as
executive director to allow more time for her to
pursue her own creative endeavors, including
starting her own consulting business and continuing
her writing career.

Since the initial mission of the organization
has been accomplished
(bringing the arts to an area with little exposure
to the arts prior to this),
the organization has been re-named
to reflect its larger role and the growing and
maturing arts community
in northern Greenville County.

Trillium Arts
is now located in a new and expansive location
on Main Street, right on the Swamp Rabbit Trail and
continues to expand services and programs.
Nichole Livengood
Our Founder

After almost 10 years
of entreprenurial and
arts experience,
Nichole has found a niche
in the arts community
by becoming
a driving force behind the careers
of talented artists
in the upstate through her
consulting business, Art to Profit.

In 2005
Nichole founded
Travelers Rest Arts Mission
as a non-profit arts center
in Travelers Rest.

As executive Director, she began
the poetry series "Poets in  the Forest",
which featured some of South Carolina's
best poets, as well as
the outsider and folk art fair "Tram Fair",
Art Day at Poinsett Park, and
a summer arts camp.
Nichole was a catalyst for
the development of a thriving arts community
in northern Greenville county.
She worked tirelessly
(for the first couple of years
without any pay)
to develop these programs for
local artists and communities.

In 2006
she was voted "Local Hero"
by the Upstate Beat Magazine
as well as voted
one of the upstate's
"Up-and-Coming"
by the Greenville News LINK Magazine.
She also received an award from
the Travelers Rest Business Association
in December of 2006
for "Business of the Month"
and has been featured in
Greenville New's "City People" twice.
